Of course, you need to ensure there is enough capacity (people\/machines) to reduce this stock. What definitely doesn&#8217;t make sense is to have supplying departments produce even more. In this approach, each department works in a customer-oriented way, meaning you only produce something if the next department requires it. The key variable is production time (pre-calculation time), and you only produce for customers up to a set maximum amount of intermediate stock within a specific time frame. Planners still have control over the priority of orders, but they can no longer allow intermediate stocks to grow too high. The end result is a significantly smoother order flow, improving predictability, delivery reliability, and reducing inventory costs.
